Agro2 Reforestation Cassava Plus Trees

Agricultural Production and Agroforestry Techniques for Reforestation

While Agro2 is passionate about agriculture, it is also committed to innovating sustainable planting techniques both on and off of its fields. Through our partner PlusTrees, we support the replanting of native trees on our lands. By planting trees near our farmlands we are able to preserve local watersheds, reduce soil erosion and provide native bird habitats. Agro2 and PlusTrees recently received official reforestation status from ANAM, Panama’s environmental authority, and are now working with ANAM and local NGOs and businesses. We are currently working towards ISCC certification, which we plan to attain in early 2012.

Our reforestation species include

  • Espave
  • Copey
  • Mahogany (Caoba)
  • Native fig
  • Elephant Ear
  • Mangle de Montana
  • Harino.

These trees are able to grow in a variety of soils and all offer specific benefits to the environment. While much of the land in this region cannot be used due to its degradation, PlusTrees efforts will improve neighboring farmers’ soil quality and improve regional bio-diversity.
