Environmental and social sustainability are at the heart of Agro2’s business philosophy. We work with local farmers to implement sustainable agriculture practices that reduce on-site impacts, benefit local biodiversity and provide income for Panamanian farmers.

Reducing Environmental Impacts through Cassava Production

Environmental impacts from on-farm practices are some of the most important to Agro2's sustainability efforts. We firmly believe we can employ several best practices to reduce environmental impacts. These practices not only reduce input costs and pollution to the surrounding environment, they also serve as an example to local farmers of how sustainable agriculture can be doubly beneficial.

Our on-farm practices include:

  • Composting Agricultural Waste: By composting our waste we can fertilize our fields and provide vital nutrients to our plants, many of which are growing on degraded soils.
  • Organic Cassava: Much of our cassava is grown chemical free, without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. In an area prone to floods this can benefit local waterways.
  • Crop Rotation: We rotate the cassava fields with soybeans to enrich the soils with nutrients.
