In order to the development of a new area of about 100 hectares with cassava production, Agro2 decided to invest in a cassava planter and uprooter. The supplier of the machines is the Brazilian company, PlantiCenter.
With the new equipment, Agro2 will be able to develop and manage the plantations in a more efficient way. Founder of Agro2, Frans van Hulle, states: “Last couple of years it has been more and more difficult to find sufficient and skilled labor and due to this we have been experiencing delays in the development together with quality production issues. With the new equipment we will be able to plant 5-7 hectares of cassava per day, instead of 0.5-1 hectare. As with the equipment, we will be able to set the distance between the cassava plants fixed and as each plant will receive the same amount of fertilizer, we are expecting a significant increase in production per hectare as well.”. Regarding the Uprooter, Van Hulle says: “The Uprooter will give us great benefits such as the possibility to harvest during dry season which is normally very difficult due to hardened soil and we’ll improve efficiency of harvesting with about 300%.”
Joao Epifanio, director of Ingeniera y Construciones, S.A., official distributor of PlantiCenter in Panama and Agro2 will work closely together to promote cassava machines in Panama. “Agro2 is one of the first companies in Panama to invest in cassava equipment and looking at all the benefits versus the investment, we hope more Panamanian companies will follow Agro2 in industrializing and mechanizing the cassava production.”, says Epifanio.
Agro2 will provide planting services to other cassava producers and the equipment is available for rent. For more information, please contact us.
