About Us
Agro2 began in 2007 in order to produce ethanol from cassava and cassava products such as cassava starch, tapioca, cassava flour, cassava chips, cassava bread, cassava cake, waxed cassava and peeled cassava for consumption in Panama and for export. The idea came when founder Frans Van Hulle visited Veraguas and was struck by the paradox of land-rich local farmers living in poverty, as well as Panama’s dependence on imported fossil fuel. We currently work on 300 hectares of land in Veraguas, Panama, including Moestuin, our test site, where we grow and analyze 22 different varieties of cassava in coordination with our partner CLAYUCA.
The 3P philosophy is central to Agro2’s business practices. The 3P philosophy means people, planet, and profits. We believe that in order to be a truly sustainable business, we must do well by doing good, and we practice 3P practices in every aspect of our business, from farm to market.
Mission Statement
Agro2 is committed to producing ethanol from cassava and food products for domestic consumption and export through the use of sustainable agriculture practices while serving as a model of agricultural production in the highly degraded Veraguas region of the Republic of Panama.
